Still looking for a bathing suit? I've done a postpartum review of my own product! June 1, 2016 15:21
I admit, I have always been a bikini girl. Even when I was pregnant with my two older children, I wore a bikini until I popped...and, thanks to an amazing metabolism and breastfeeding, I was back into a bikini shortly after giving birth. I know that's not what women want to hear. I don't want to be "that girl," but the reason I mention it is because it's no longer the case!
At 40 years old, I decided to have another baby. The conception was swift, and the pregnancy healthy and fun, despite many warnings that my "advanced maternal age" (what!? since when is 40 old??) could create delays and complications. It was a beautiful time in my life, and I am very grateful to have done it one last time. BUT, one thing that I hate to agree with is that the pregnancy weight just doesn't seem to be flying off my bones the way it did 15 years ago! 15 months after giving birth, I am still 15 pounds heavier than before I got pregnant...anyone noticing a numeric trend? Maybe the universe is trying to tell me something.
Since I have always been a bikini girl, the summer after giving birth found me scrambling to make sure that I wasn't going to miss out on any water or sun activities. Even though I had worn my suits while pregnant, they never used to be "my style" when I wasn't pregnant. Feeling as though I had no choice...there was NO WAY I was putting on a bikini, I tried on my own personal wrap around bathing suit (I had given myself a classic black one years ago to take promotional photos in), and low and behold: it fit! Not only did it fit, it looked good! I was so proud of myself! Here, I had been advertising the suits to fit before and after pregnancy, but it wasn't until I actually needed my own product did I realize how ingenious it is. It covered my "squishy belly," as the baby and I refer to it. It covered my newly ample bottom, as that is where most of the weight was gained. It also allowed me to nurse the baby while I was wearing it, which is one of my most important requirements in clothing these days. Wow! All these years I have been making what is actually a darn cool bathing suit.
I feel so lucky to have this suit to rely on now that my body has changed. Sure, I could go to the gym every day, work my butt off (literally), and deprive myself of all the yummy food and sweets I have been eating since I found out I was pregnant. I don't want to do that, though. I want to be happy. I want to enjoy myself...enjoy nursing my baby, and laughing with her when she's done and pats my "squishy belly." I want to love and accept my body the way it is, for all of it's miraculous tasks, and I want to be nearly naked all summer, but still feel modestly and fashionably covered. hisOpal Swimwear does that for me, and many others. I am SO PROUD every time I get a stellar review from all of you AMAZING women who have tried and loved my swimwear. I figured it was time to write my own review. I give the suit 5 stars, because without it, I very well could be sitting in shorts and a t-shirt at the beach...and even though I am heavier now, that's just not me!
Enjoy your summer! And no matter what size, shape, or life change you are experiencing, put your bathing suit on and join the fun!
